Books We Love
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey
Who it’s for:
Anyone who wants to learn proven practices that they can implement to be happier and more effective.
Why we love it:
This book has stood the test of time for good reason. It is packed full of awesome insights and gives you not just the theory, but how to start implementing it in your life. It includes things I haven’t yet seen elsewhere, too. The first half can be a bit long for some, but stick with it and at least go through the habits section. If you only read and act upon one book, pick this one!
The E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber
Who it’s for:
Entrepreneurs who feel like they don’t have control over their businesses and have to do ALL the things. Do you ever wonder why you ever thought you’d have more freedom by working for yourself?
Why we love it:
This is a must read for any entrepreneur who wants to build a business. It helps you make a critical mindset shift from being the doer (technician) in your business to being a business owner. If you’re doing everything, you really just built yourself a job instead of a business. It also helps you understand how building processes can help you make the shift.
Tools We Use
Dubsado: CRM + Proposals + Scheduler
What we use it for:
Proposals
E-signature for Engagement Letters and other authorizations
Invoicing and payments
Contact forms/lead captures on our website
Client surveys
HR application process
Calendar Scheduler
What we don’t use it for: bookkeeping.
Why we love it:
We get compliments on our awesome proposals all. the. time. A lot of the credit goes to the Dubsado platform! A favorite feature of Dubsado is we can send a proposal, engagement letter to e-sign, and the first invoice to pay all in one step. And it looks beautiful. Plus, when a client signs on, it’s set up to automatically send a welcome kit. Bam. Talk about setting a great first impression!

1Password: Password Manager
What we use it for:
Storing passwords securely
Generating strong passwords
Why we love it:
Passwords are extremely important for security. They’re also super annoying. (Side note: we don’t share passwords with clients. Sharing passwords, while tempting, is a bad idea.) I honestly don’t know what I did before 1Password. You have one master password to get into the vault, and can make it even more secure with 2-factor authentication. No more remembering passwords or wondering where you wrote them down. All of our passwords are unique and very strong. That’s awesome as it is, but it gets even better with the Google Chrome browser extension. When logged in to 1Password, this feature will fill in your username and passwords for you! You don’t need to copy and paste every time. It also has a password generator for when you’re creating a new login.
Zoom: Video Calls
What we use it for:
Client calls
Team calls
Troubleshooting
Training calls
Why we love it:
Since we work virtually, having a way to communicate *almost* face to face is essential. I tried a couple different video call programs, and this one just works. The person you’re inviting to the call simply follows a link and we rarely have issues getting it up and running. The screenshare option is awesome; we use it often to help each other and clients walk through things. Also, it’s free! I used the free version for quite awhile and just recently upgraded to a paid version (for a nominal monthly fee) when our team grew.
